Komodo Island is an island located in the Nusa Tenggara archipelago, east of Sumbawa Island, separated by the Sape Strait. Komodo Island is known as the natural habitat of the Komodo dragon. This island is one of the Komodo National Park areas which is managed by the central government. Komodo Island is an amazing destination for nature and animal fans. On Komodo Island, Komodo dragons live and breed well. Until August 2009, on this island there were around 1300 Komodo dragons. Added to other islands, such as Rinca Island and Gili Motang, their total number reaches around 2500 individuals. There are also around 100 Komodo dragons in the Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the mainland of Flores Island but not included in the Komodo National Park area.

Habitat Of Komodo Dragon

The Komodo dragon, also known as the Komodo monitor lizard, is the largest species of lizard still living in the world today. They have a large and strong body, reaching a length of 3 meters and weighing up to 70 kilograms. Komodo Dragon cover their skin with hard, concave scales, providing good protection from predators.

Komodo is a carnivore and scavenger. They prey on a variety of animals, including birds, small mammals, and reptiles. They also often prey on larger animals, such as deer and wild boar. With their strength and speed, Komodo dragons are able to chase and catch their prey easily.

Komodo Island is also home to various other species. You can find rare birds, such as parrots and eagles, as well as various types of reptiles and insects. The natural beauty of Komodo Island also makes it a popular place for nature lovers and photographers.

For tourists who want to visit Komodo Island, there are several options to reach this island. You can take a boat from Labuan Bajo, which is the closest city to Komodo Island. Traveling by boat will provide an interesting experience, because you can enjoy beautiful views along the way.

Apart from that, there are also direct flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo. After arriving in Labuan Bajo, you can continue your journey by boat to Komodo Island. Make sure to prepare well, bring enough equipment, and follow the instructions given by the tour guide or national park officials.
